Plant Registration

The Registration of existing and new cultivars within Nymphaeaceae Salisb. (water-lily Family) is carried out by The University of Connecticut, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology for the I.W.G.S. as appointed by the International Society for Horticultural Science . Standards (a specimen, seed sample or illustration kept and maintained to demonstrate the diagnostic characteristics of a cultivar) are maintained in The George Safford Torrey Herbarium (CONN). Hybridizers/Registrants wishing to register a new cultivar name can follow the above links to achieve this. In addition, the above link to search the Official IWGS Names of Water-lilies database is dedicated to developing an on-line Register of all cultivar names and links to associated literature (protologues) within this family and denomination classes. This can only develop with help from our members and aquatic plant enthusiasts world-wide. If you notice a mistake or wish to submit an amendment to the database, please use the comments feature (provided with each databased record) to send your suggestions to the registrar. It is the eventual aim of these pages to have links to Standards, images and illustrations that together constitute standard portfolios. These pages are in the process of being updated and transferred from the George Safford Torrey Herbarium website. When this transfer is complete the herbarium website will no longer host the Nymphaeaceae checklist.
